How to shop

Placing an order with the National Research Council (NRC)'s Virtual Store is easy. There's no need to create an account first-if you do not have an existing account, you will be prompted to create one when you place your first order online.

Find items

First, you'll need to browse or search for the items you'd like to order. To browse the NRC Virtual Store, use the menu on the left-hand side under the heading "Construction publications" and select a category. To search the NRC Virtual Store, enter a keyword in the "Find product" box. When you find an item that interests you, select the title of the item to see its product detail page. Here, you'll find more information about the item, including: a detailed description, the format available and its other language versions.

Note:

You can always order each of our products' other official language version directly from the product detail page whether you are browsing the store in English or French.

Adding products to your shopping basket

Using the shopping basket

You can always access your "Shopping basket" by clicking on the "Shopping basket" button found near the top of your screen or, by clicking on the "Shopping basket" hyperlink.

Adding items

If you would like to order an item, choose the "Shopping basket" icon, labeled "ADD to Shopping basket". To add more than one, update the number in the "Quantity" box. For example, if you wish to order 5, enter 5 in the "Quantity" box. Remember: When you make changes to the quantities of your items, be sure to select the "Update" button on the "Shopping basket" page.

As you browse the NRC Virtual Store and add items to the "Shopping basket", the contents of your basket and running total are displayed in the "Shopping basket".

Using My Favorites to add products to your Shopping basket

Here you can save products that you don't want to buy right away for up to 100 days. For this, your system must accept cookies. If you want to buy a product, put it in the "Shopping basket" and go to the "Order".

If you want to add a product to your favorites, click on the icon.

Order history

Your previous purchases are listed in "Order history". To view details for a particular order, please select the order number.

Removing items

You may remove items from your "Shopping basket" by clicking on the Trash can icon, labeled "Delete". Remember: When you make changes to the quantities of your items, be sure to select the "Update" button at the bottom of the "Shopping basket" page. You may select the empty "Shopping basket".

Proceed to order

When you are done adding items to your "Shopping basket", you can proceed to "Order". Take a moment to review all the items you've placed in your "Shopping basket" to make sure they are correct and the quantities showing are the quantities you wish to order.

When you are ready to place an order for the items in your "Shopping basket", you can proceed to the checkout by selecting the "Order" button at the bottom of the "Shopping basket" page. You will be taken to the order page, or will be prompted to Log In if you have not already done so.

Login

If you are a new customer, please select Register on the "Login" page.

If you are a returning customer, please enter your email address and password and select the "Log on" button.

Always login with the email address that you used to create your Virtual Store account. If you have forgotten your password, choose the Forgot your password? link.

Changing the delivery address

The delivery address for your order will default to your registration address (the postal mail address which you used to create your NRC Store account, you do not have to re-enter this address as it is kept in your profile for your convenience).

However, if you want to send your purchase to a different address, you can select the Change the ship-to address for this order link, in the default "Ship-to" address section of the order page. You can enter a different name and address where we will ship your purchase. Please note that the delivery address is changed only for your current order.

Method of payment

Orders placed online via the NRC Store can only be paid for via credit card. We accept MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. All orders must be prepaid. Enter the credit card number without spaces or dashes. Enter your expiry date from using the pull down lists.

CVV is an anti-fraud security feature to help verify that you are in possession of your credit card. For Visa / Mastercard cards, the three-digit CVV number is printed on the signature panel on the back of the card immediately after the card's account number. For American Express, the four-digit CVV number is printed on the front of the card above the card account number.

Final checkout

Once you have provided the required information, select the "Continue shopping" button. You will be prompted to review your order.

Review and submit your order

The Check order page allows you to verify the accuracy of all the information you have provided and make any necessary adjustments. Once you have verified the accuracy of your information you must then read the entire Terms and conditions and completely scroll to the bottom of the document before being able to proceed. When you are ready, select the I AGREE - PROCESS ORDER button. If you do not agree to the Terms and conditions, select the I DO NOT AGREE - CANCEL ORDER and your order will not be submitted.

You will be presented with an order number on an Order confirmation page. We recommend that you print your order confirmation and keep it for your records. Your order number is an important piece of information, you can use it when you are checking your Order history online or if you are contacting one of our client service representatives over the telephone. To check your Order history online you must be logged in. Once you have logged in select My Account and then select My orders from the menu. In here you may select to view "Open orders" or "Completed orders".
