Dr. Zhenguo Lu was recently elected as a Fellow of Optica (formerly known as the Optical Society of America), the leading professional association in optics and photonics, and home to accomplished science, engineering and business leaders from all over the globe.
Dr. Lu is a principal research officer and a team leader of the photonics team with the NRC's Advanced Electronics and Photonics Research Centre. He's an expert in the field of photonics devices and system applications, and after a decade of research into laser technology, Dr. Lu and his team had a major laser breakthrough. This discovery is a single source that simultaneously emits multiple wavelengths, up to 100, each with unparalleled spectral purity, effectively a frequency-comb source. This will vastly improve fixed wireless access and optical satellite communications for rural and remote communities.
Since 2006, Dr. Lu has served as an adjunct professor at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Ottawa and Concordia University. He was also the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in RWTH Aachen, Germany.
