Challenge accepted: How the NRC is supporting a healthy, sustainable, connected, and technology-enabled future

- Ottawa, Ontario

Canadians are facing a wide range of social and technology challenges, now and into the future. Innovation in research and science is essential to a healthier future for Canadians, a more sustainable economy, and Canadian wealth.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) plays a central role as an expert and enabler in Canada's innovation ecosystem, helping researchers, businesses, and universities work together to foster breakthroughs in areas that affect us all.

Over the next several weeks, find out how, through our Challenge programs, the NRC is bringing together the best innovative minds from across the country to address sudden challenges, such as COVID‑19, as well ongoing challenges we face today and tomorrow: developing a sustainable model for long‑term care, expanding broadband Internet service, developing clean and sustainable sources of energy, developing technology solutions for cell and gene therapies, investing in quantum sensing, addressing issues in the Arctic and North, and using AI and digital technology to support these priorities.

The Challenge programs are part of a suite of collaborative R&D initiatives bringing together researchers and facilities from across the NRC's 14 research centres with academic and industrial partners. Through these programs and initiatives, grant and contribution funding is provided through the NRC's National Program Office for collaborators who offer complementary expertise, including academic institutions and small‑ and medium‑sized enterprises.

The NRC is up for the challenge. Learn how the NRC is leading the way on disruptive R&D technologies to address issues that affect us today, and tomorrow.
