Adam Sherwood spent his 16-month co-op term at our Aerospace Research Centre (AERO), and he's thrilled about his experience. Working with the Low Carbon Technologies group, he focused on battery and hydrogen propulsion system technologies for greening aviation.
"My time at the NRC has been incredible. I've worked with so many exceptional people in an area that I find fascinating and rewarding."
He had the opportunity to support aircraft ground qualification testing for the battery system on the Hybrid Electric Aircraft Testbed (HEAT), Canada's first hybrid-electric aircraft. Pursuing a career in electric aviation, Adam will help support Canada's climate and sustainability goals.
Adam was also able to compete in the IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and the AIAA/IEEE Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium Student Design Competition and won first prize for his high-voltage/high power aircraft design. He also won the first ever Student Poster Competition held by AERO's Early Career Network, a program that aims to empower future leaders in STEM.
Control system engineer, Natesa MacRae says, "Adam has impressed us in his ability to master complex multi-disciplinary systems, and he has earned the respect and admiration of his team for his work ethic, integrity, and professionalism. He has a tremendous future ahead."
Adam will return to Carleton University for 2 more semesters to complete his bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. He's confident that his experience and valuable network of contacts will shape his future career in sustainable aviation.
