What kind of microgravity research has the NRC done? (Part 2) - Transcript

Currently there is a lot of interest in 3d printing and mining technology in microgravity.
Currently everything that's utilized in space, whether it's the international space station, satellites, space capsules, everything is manufactured/created here on earth and then put in to orbit.
As we look forward to traveling to and colonizing mars and the moon, we need to be able to create that equipment in those locations, using the minerals that are found on those planets or on asteroids.
So, currently we're conducting research with groups like the Student Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) to help push that cutting edge of technology.
