Collaboration centres are established to develop internationally recognized expertise in a certain field. These centres amplify the impact of large science and engineering, encourage collaboration, and leverage funding to support the pursuit of research excellence.
Closer collaboration between the NRC and partners such as universities and other government and research organizations in common research areas lead to discoveries and advances that result in publications, patents, and the commercialization of technology, as well as provide support for talent through the supervision of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
To foster collaboration, the NRC is co-locating researchers and equipment with partners to create collaboration centres anchored in research themes of shared mutual interest. Located at either an NRC or a partner's research facility, researchers from both organizations share access to specialized equipment, work side by side on collaborative projects, and provide training opportunities for young scientists.
