AI is a powerful tool that can benefit Canadian citizens, governments and industries. It has the potential to accelerate scientific discovery and create innovative solutions to Canada's greatest challenges.
For over 20 years, the NRC has been at the forefront of responsible AI. This means developing and using AI systems in ways that are ethical, transparent and fair, ensuring they do not cause harm or perpetuate biases. It also includes AI safety and the implementation of safeguards to protect data privacy, security and human rights.
At the Digital Technologies Research Centre, we use AI in our research—and we research how to make AI better. We have helped hundreds of clients develop and adopt responsible and safe AI systems, and guided many others in identifying issues and reducing risks.
What we offer
We have extensive expertise in the development and use of AI that is responsible, trustworthy and secure. We offer advice and proven knowledge about AI and can help you find the value in your data.
Research to enable responsible AI
We develop methods to make an AI-enabled world safer and fairer for everyone. This includes making AI decision making more explainable and addressing challenges like bias, inclusiveness, data leakage, AI system security and effective human–AI interaction.
AI assessment services
Our research teams can help businesses and government organizations assess their own and third party AI products. This includes evaluating individual products or comparing several for indicators of bias, accuracy, data leakage and AI-specific cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Expert guidance on responsible AI
We work with partners and clients from the industry, government and academia to provide guidance and inform policy on responsible AI.
