Canadian clean technologies mission to Singapore – May 6 to 10, 2024
The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, and Global Affairs Canada are pleased to invite Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large companies to submit an expression of interest to join in a partnering mission to Singapore. This mission will take place from May 6 to 10, 2024, and is anchored around the 2024 Cleantech Forum Asia. The program will include attending the Cleantech Forum Asia which provides exposure and matchmaking to large corporate end users and investors in the Indo Pacific region, as well as tailored advisory services, pitch sessions and B2B meetings with selected Singapore major corporations, end users and investors focused on clean technologies.
1. Mission objective
This mission is focused on connecting Canadian SMEs to Indo-Pacific and Singapore corporations looking for innovative cleantech solutions, and helping Canadian SMEs build partnerships and develop potential future technology piloting and demonstration projects. Technology piloting and demonstrations are critical in enabling SMEs to validate and adapt their technologies to the real-world market conditions, and will be pivotal for SMEs to break market-entry barriers in Indo-Pacific economies, improve bankability and accelerate commercialization in the global marketplace.

3. Sectors of focus
Clean technologies with focus on greenhouse gases (GHG) reduction, including:
- Decarbonization: carbon capture, utilization and storage
- Clean Energy: solar, wind, hydro, hydrogen, fuel cells, batteries, electricity storage, biomass, etc.
- Efficiency: energy use optimization, sustainable mobility, smart grid, energy efficient equipment and appliances
- Environmental protection: air and climate, soil, solid waste, water treatment, waste reduction, recycling materials and circular economy
4. Canadian delegation profile
Canadian SME participants must:
- be an incorporated, profit‑oriented small or medium‑sized business in Canada
- have 500 or fewer full‑time equivalent employees
- pursue growth and profit by developing and commercializing innovative, technology-driven new or improved products, services or processes in Canada
- have a differentiated and protectable technology (TRL7+) that could become competitive in global markets
- be committed and have sufficient working capital and resources to undertake market expansion in the Indo Pacific Region
Preference may be given to SME applicants who:
- have a minimum of 10 full‑time equivalent employees
- have commercialized 1 or more products domestically or internationally
- have greater than $500,000 CAD in annual revenue

Large Canadian companies must also register for this opportunity in order to be considered as part of the Canadian delegation.
5. Cleantech Forum Asia
Cleantech Forum Asia is one of the 3 annual signature events (Asia, North America, Europe) organized by the Cleantech Group, a leading cleantech research group. The cleantech forums attract large contingents of corporate end users, investors and leading innovative cleantech solution providers from around the world.
The main event at the 2024 Cleantech Forum Asia is Power Matching, a series of 1-on-1 meetings between SMEs and large corporates (end users and investors) operating in the Indo-pacific region. Meetings will be pre-arranged based on online profiles that will be uploaded by SMEs.
5.1 Preliminary mission agenda
Monday May 6 to Friday May 10:
- Preparatory sessions or industry briefings at the High Commission of Canada in Singapore
- Participation in Cleantech Forum Asia (all associated matchmaking services and dedicated Canadian events at the forum)
- Site visits to Singapore organizations (corporations, end users, relevant government agencies)
- Company presentations or pitch sessions
- Networking sessions
- Facilitated B2B meetings
6. Financial support
Project funding through the NRC IRAP will only be available to eligible Canadian SMEs. Large Canadian companies will need to secure funding from other sources or self-fund.
Canadian SMEs selected by NRC IRAP for participation will be invited to apply for up to $5,000 reimbursement of 75% of travel and accommodations costs associated with the mission. Selected participants will be sent instructions and information about this support.

An expression of interest form will be provided to potentially eligible applicants. The expression of interest application form will request additional information about the applicant, organization and technology.

Canadian SME participants must be NRC IRAP clients. If not already an NRC IRAP client, Canadian SMEs must call 1-877-994-4727 to determine if they might be eligible for support through NRC IRAP.
