Roles and responsibilities

I joined the National Research Council of Canada in 1994. I am presently Principal Research Officer in the Sustainable Resilient Infrastructure & Communities (SRIC) research unit of NRC’s Construction Research Centre. My fields of expertise include: Remote Monitoring of Bridges and Heritage Buildings; Numerical Modelling of Bridges; Durability Assessment and Service Life Prediction of Concrete Bridges, Buildings and Tunnels; Development of high-performance concrete technologies to reduce cracking and corrosion.

Current research and/or projects

The main focus of my research is to improve durability, resiliency and the structural performance of civil engineering infrastructures to achieve longer service lives and reduce their life cycle cost.

My main ongoing projects include:

  • Satellite-based structural health monitoring of highway bridges for performance assessment;
  • Optimization of concrete formulations, corrosion protection, and repair methods for the major rehabilitation of the La Fontaine Tunnel in Montreal;
  • Vibration monitoring of heritage buildings on parliament hill using networks of accelerometers;
  • Climate resilient buildings and core public infrastructure : Adaptation of highway bridges;
