Team Leader, System Integration / Prototypes
Experimental physicist. I research and develop ultrasonic and optical sensors to characterize the microstructure, chemical composition, and properties of materials. I use these sensors to solve industrial problems in process development, process control, and quality control, or problems relevant to the environment. Applications of my work are mostly on metals, but also include polymers, ceramics, and fluids. My team is expert at transforming lab demonstrations into fully functional prototype systems that are tested in real applications, including during industrial processing of materials in large plants. Examples of past and recent work include:
LUMet: Laser-ultrasonic sensor for the characterization of the microstructure and thermomechanical kinetics of metals. Commercialized by Dynamic Systems Inc.
PyroLIBS: Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to analyze the composition of molten metals, including molten matte and molten steel at up to 1650 C. In the process of transferring the technology to a commercial partner.
Microbial fuel cell sensor for the measurement of water toxicity, either for water treatment plants or for natural water bodies. Looking for a commercial partner.
State-of-Charge and State-of-Health measurement of flow batteries.
